8-10 Tandem Skydives
Generally, 8 to 10 tandem skydives are recommended before attempting a solo skydive. This provides sufficient experience with body position, freefall awareness, and landing procedures. A First Jump Course is still required, but prior tandem experience builds a strong foundation for safe and successful solo progression.
Why Tandem Jumps First?
- Familiarization: Gets you comfortable with the sensation of freefall and parachute flight.
- Body Position: Develops muscle memory for maintaining a stable body position.
- Emergency Procedures: Exposure to basic emergency procedures, even passively.
- Confidence Building: Increases confidence and reduces anxiety.
What Happens After Tandem Jumps?
- First Jump Course (FJC): A comprehensive ground school covering all aspects of solo skydiving.
- Coach Jumps: Jumps with an instructor providing real-time guidance.
- Supervised Jumps: Gradually increasing independence with instructor observation.
- Solo Status: Achieved after demonstrating proficiency in all required skills.
